There is a sliver of truth here if your only concern is with how much you weigh. But, this approach does absolutely nothing for cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and muscle tone.

If you hate the way you look and you hate exercising you will only hate the way you look even more if you give up the exercising. You may want to focus more on diet to help achieve weight loss.

I do the same, except I don't have space for a bench or anything like that so I workout with kettlebells, ranging from 50-90 pounds each, along with a doorway iron gym pull up bar. Crazy good workout and they take up a couple square feet for storage. no excuses!

Here's what I've stocked my home gym with so far:
Spinner
Dumbell Rack from 5 to 35 lbs (x2) at 5 lb intervals
Weighted bar (18 lb)
Weighted vest (18 lb)
Incline bench
Torso Track 2
Iron Gym Xtreme Workout bar (with elbow straps)
Swiss Ball
Wobble Board
Exercise Band (20 lb)
35 lb kettlebell
Pushup grips
Medicine Ball (10 lbs)
Exercise Mat
Mini B-Ball Hoop

The spinner, bench and dumbbells make up the heart of my workouts and cost about $2k combined. The rest cost no mores than about $300 combined. I can do some version of just about every exercise I know of. I do a lot of reps and don't have any reason to bench or squat a whole bunch of weight. It all fits comfortably in my TV/music room so I get great workouts, spend time with my kids at the same time and really enjoy it all.

I had a rower for a while but found I could replace it with an elastic band looped around a couch leg. I also had a vera climber for a very brief time but it was loud and uncomfortable to spend much time on. The spinner works out much better. Elliptical seem great too but good ones are pretty pricey and take up a lot of space. I find I enjoy it all more if I keep it simp and free myself of excessive electronic gadgetry.

Next on my list to purchase are couple more kettle bells, and a bosu ball. If I ever get a real gym room built I will add bodywieght suspension straps and a heavy bag to my arsenal. Yeah!

TRUE!
Besides, I feel a heck of a lot better after an hour + of intense excercise then after NOT eating 1/2 a chocolate bar.
