No injury is minor. Everyone has a different tolerance level. Any limitation of normal movement is frustrating. In my professional experience as a RN, rotator cuff injury, tears especially with surgery can be a long hard surgery. Some people will not exercise their shoulder post-op due to the pain, and risk developing a frozen shoulder which really sucks. I had a mild version of that which was relieved with a special orthopedic joint manipulation. thankfully.

I completely understand why you choose a prednisone injection. I'm sure your doctor gave you a list of options, and the expected results. I did it once for the medial meniscus tear, but it was primarily diagnostic. It covers up the pain/inflammation, but it doesn't heal the original injury. That's why I listed all the things I did and the websites. The blood flow to a given area, will affect the healing time. Medial meniscus's have very poor blood supply, and thus, healing takes much longer. So 16 months later, I am finally able to to lunges without pain.

Good luck to you! I know last summer you were busy painting all your oly weight plates.
You are a RN, no wonder most of the medical language went right over my head lol. It was a great post, I did the injection because it has helped me to some extent but I know it is just a band aid, the real problem is still there hidden and it will strike back sooner or later so I will have to address it eventually. I will try to either save for the surgery or try to obtain health insurance so I can have it. As far as the fitness project goes it is still a work in progress and is comong along. I will post some pictures soon.

I would say that you will need to back way off, repair/heal the problems, and when recovered, change focus for the near to mid term to mobility and strengthening those areas subject to overuse and injury. I'm with you, I didn't want to the "funny" stuff but age took care of that. I probably spend 2 to 3 hours per week on thoracic and shoulder mobility. My key piece of equipment for this? A broom stick The shoulders in particular and the knees are vulnerable to over use and you just can't keep doing it forever....nature will put a halt to it and ya gotta change focus. But, like you, I have the "disease" and I don't to stop. My doc says my left ACL is getting loose but I still can't chill out so I guess I'll burn it and sweat the fix later.

Kind of interesting we've been talking about shoulders. Last night when I was doing db bench presses at my top weight (55 lb), I got the dumbbell too low on my left side, and I could not press it up by myself. The trainer had to assist me. It was really annonying. Tonight I had a massage, and the left shoulder was way worse than the right. The therapist was attempting some orthopedic manipulation of the head of the humerus in the shoulder socket, but it was apparent there was some type of restriction. It sounds like I still have some "frozen shoulder" although, she said no, she keep saying capsulitis, which is the same thing. The good thing is, it doesn't hurt, but I do have limited range of motion. I can't raise my arm above my head without the scapula (shoulder blade) moving up. In normal range, one should be able to do this while holding the shoulder blade still. So...off I go to see the physical therapist again. Going to check in with him tomorrow.
Best of luck to you!!

God I hope I do not stick my foot in my mouth with what I am going to say but if I do, please accept my most sincere aplogy. I have only interacted with you on the fitness forum and it has only been for a relatively short period of time so we have never touched the gender issue, going by your username I have always assumed that you are a woman, that being said you have mentioned your age to be 53 and you just said that you were doing dumbell bench press with your maximum of 55 lbs dumbells. If you can bench 55 lbs dumbells being a 53 year old woman I sure would not want to get on your bad side that is pretty strong for a woman. I don't think I have ever seen a woman benching 55lbs dumbells. I have seen a few young girls benching 30lbs, but 55? That is pretty insane, I can only imagine what you could do in your 20's. I'm not saying you are old by any means but I had to read your post again when I read 55lbs. Some women are genetically gifted and you seem to be one of them. I will keep a safe distance from you, I don't want to get my butt kicked.

Lol. You are fine. I don't feel old at all. Yes, I am female. I didn't really lift weights like I do now in my 20's. I remember lifting at the college on machines mostly, but really, I did it to be closer to the... ahem...guys . And then I belonged to a weight lifting gym when I was about 28-29, were I reinjured my back. But I don't remember using many free weights. It was definately machine focused. I have always been competitive, probably, at times to my detriment. I can be quite focused and driven at times. I think I am learning to smell the roses more, but I do LOVE my regained strength and energy. I love to have fun. Now, about you... You're safe with me. I'm sure I could not kick your butt, but thanks for the compliments. I can't rep you again, cause I already did last night!

Good I feel better now that I know I won't get my butt kicked. Today I feel better two days after getting that cortisone shot. Yesterday it hurt some but I was expecting that to happen because when getting a cortisone shot the next day there usually is soreness and discomfort but it goes away on the second day. I have had my share of frustrations with my joint issues and I hope it is a while before I run into another setback. When I was experiencing kee pain I was really down and frustrated but I still trained hard and pushed through the pain but it wasn't easy. I guess I am somewhat haed headed, I'm a man I need to be less hard headed.

Good luck with those! My orthopedic surgeon refuses to use it anymore due to the chance on further degeneration of the area injected. (but that's with long term use)

Instead he prefers Soluspan (usually used for rheumatoid arthritis as well as other things), and he has found that degeneration is lessened.

This might sound silly but I have never heard of Soluspan, what is it?

BTW, I saw the physical therapist last week, and once again was told that I'm on the side of serious dysfunctional movement of my shoulders...but they are always amazed at how much I can do. He told me hang cleans won't be my friend in the long run, but I told him, I would continue doing everything I currently am doing. He said he liked my passion. Just tonight some random guy complimented me on my strength, said he saw me doing DL & dips. kept saying how strong I was, geez....It took 2 years to get from 1 dip & nearly knocking the whole dip contraption over, to doing 57 tonight.

The PT gave me 3 homework exercises that cause pain. I wasn't hurting until I started them. Was down most of the weekend, but feeling good now. thankfully, tomorrow I see the Neurokinetic Therapy specialist. Www.onefitbody.net/manual therapy.html
