New Balance is hit and miss for me. Saucony seems to have the most consistent fit for my foot, and a good amount of cushioning without a lot of added bulk (critical for my plantar fasciitis). To get the amount of cushioning I need in New Balance, the shoe is often too heavy.
Oh, and for non-athletic wear, the only sneakers I wear for casual wear are PF Flyers, black canvas Center Lo. I used to be a Chucks girl, but PF Flyers have the more comfortable sole insert, by far. I also like the ribbed toe cap more.
I have flat, narrow, size 10 feet, with extra long toes. New Balance has given me the best fit of my entire life. They're also pretty reasonably priced.
I was a New Balance fan for many years. While out shoe shopping last week the New Balance I tried on just didn't look right, The upper didn't line up with the sole on one side.
The salesperson brought over a pair of Asic's from the closeout rack. While they were a bit more money even being closeouts, the first steps in them made the sale.
From now on I will look at other brands.
