It always goes so well in the summer too because I can get fresh stuff from the roadside stands.
Swimming makes me extremely hungry, too; more than any other exercise. I can run a marathon, cycle 100miles and not be that hungry afterwards. But when it comes to swimming, my body shakes for carbs

Yeah but something about just being in the water takes it out too. Especially if you don't always get to swim at the Big I way da makai is da kine.

How long do you guys swim for and do you think swimming is a good form of excersise for losing weight?
Yes. I do it mostly for maintenance of weight and muscle mass as I never have had to lose much weight, but, I find as I have aged (late 40s) it becomes more difficult to engage in well rounded activity for extended time. I swim most every day for at least 15-20 minutes using different strokes - I purposely chose my residence due to convenience of year round swimming. I also do exercises in the water for other muscle groups. Funny thing - I hated swimming when I was in H.S. I only did it to get the requirement over with, now I love it. It seems most therapeutic, holistic and invigorating of exercises.

I would definitely recommend starting out slow if you are not already at a certain level of fitness. Now time to go swim~~~~~

Even when the water feels warm (like 80 degrees) it saps away body heat because that's still just about 20 degrees colder than your body--which burns more calories too. Eventually you will feel cold in warm water (if you stay in it long enough). Basically you not only burn calories working out, but also trying to stay warm. Although there have been times on hot summer days where I've broken into a sweat swimming... seriously.

BTW: I get the munchies after diving in cold water too (I am a scuba diver). It's not a lot of effort to dive, but when you are in 55 degree water in a wetsuit... trust me, your body burns calories and you are hungry afterwards!

I used to do it in high school. The pools and showers in RU get creepy though. So I will start once again after graduating.

I swim for exercise. I have a knee injury that makes exercise outside the water extremely painful. I use ankle weights for walking in the water and swim laps if my bad leg isn't too tired. I didn't do it to lose weight, necessarily, but that happened as a result of daily water exercises.

Good luck to you and congratulations on your new baby.

Today was the first day. I swam for 50 minutes. Alternating between breast strokes, backstrokes and freestyle. The funny thing is, even though I raised my heart rate and worked up a good sweat, it still didn't feel like a work out such as running or using other gym equipment. But I feel like I get a better work out still. I can't wait to go back tomorrow.
