I'd be curious to know if you ever were able to change your bad habit and what was that last straw that did the job for you?

For one of my friends, he tried to quit smoking forever. Until one day, he saw his friend standing in the doorway and smoking-looking fat and unhealthy. Something clicked, and now, 5 years later, he's smoking free.

For one of my other friend, she was stuck in a dysfanctional relationship for 3 years, unable to leave. Then one day, he asked her to clean his ears for him. She saw a big chunk of cerum, and that did the job. She was out of the door in one week.

Were you able to kick smoking, start excersing and so on? What was that last straw that did the job?

Sorry, no bad habits here.

I've had a few over the years:

A particular shirt that used to look good on me getting a little "stressed" in the button areas.

A doctor mentioning the words (risk of) "heart attack" for the first time.

As mentioned above, seeing myself in an unflattering picture.

Not being able to buy a particular piece of clothing because they don't carry the size.

I stopped drinking. I prayed and prayed but until I really meant the prayer, it did not work. Only then did God help me with removing the desire to drink. Then I prayed for help losing weight and I've lost about 20 lbs. by counting calories and controlling what I eat on a daily basis. I believe much of the success has come from simply wanting it. You have to want it, or you'll just go with overeating and being fat.

I admire people who can make a change over something minor. Personally, I ignored all the minor irritations and warning signs until I reached a crisis point, then made drastic changes.

I've always been in good shape. But I lost myself with my ex. So when my ex and I split in 2009 I came back home to Miami and went out with some friends. I saw the pictures afterwards and didn't realize how lose/fat I had gotten. I immediately got back into the gym and haven't stopped since.

Seeing myself in pictures has done it for me, but mostly it's when clothes stop fitting properly that I take action. Wearing the same belts for years at a time helps a lot, you learn to respond to how tight it's getting and never let yourself go up a notch, only ever down.

Never been any one thing where I decided to get really lean and then stayed that way. I've always moved between semi-lean and a extra couple pounds. Right now I'm on my way down to lean status after hitting my personal breaking point that I've bounced off of many times over the last 6 or so years. I don't carry fat well so even a few pounds gained makes a difference in how clothes fit.

My highest weight I've ever seen on a scale was 230, and that combined with how terribly self conscious I felt walking down the street was the closest thing to a last straw I've had. I'm sitting at 210 right now and have a 35 inch waist, I could stand to drop down to 200 but we'll see, I keep getting stronger too so it's hard to get the scale down there.

What I've found is that you have to set a narrow range of body fat that is acceptable to you, and never let yourself get outside of it. My standards are high, "fat" to me is what some other people would consider normal.

I was pretty fit and stopped exercising (for reasons I won't get into) for about a year. I got out of bed, looked down and could hardly see my feet over my gut. Then I looked at my gut. I was horrified.

For me, it was always eat whatever I wanted. I'd go to In-N-Out burger or Tommys and order two double cheeseburgers, beer, etc. I was young and could just eat any and everything in any amounts and not worry about gaining weight. It wasnt until I really started to dedicate myself to my martial arts and yoga training when I REALLY began to not only pay attention to what I ate, but also began to educate myself to proper/nutritional eating. I started noticing improvements in my physical speed, power, flexibility, I stopped getting sick, had no more pains in my back, knees, and no headaches. I became very in tuned with my physical body. I switched from the stupid "emotional eating" and started doing the smart "mental eating" which is learning how to provide the best proper nutrition/fuel for my body/vehicle.

Bad Habit - Extermely poor food/nutritional choices.

How changed - By educating myself on proper nutrition and leading a life led by intellect instead of emotion. No more "Im going to eat this doughnut because I really want it" and began thinking mindset of "No way will I eat a doughnut because it isnt healthy and doesnt help/add to my fitness goal as it is horrible fuel for my body". Was able to switch mindset from "living to eat" to "Eat to Live".

Result - 20+ years of fitness and hundreds of students/clients' life changed by training them on what I have personally achieved. Low body fat %, training for 13.2, visible abs, rarely if ever sick, avid crossfitter, martial arts instructor, bodyguard, etc.
