I have recently started running and found that the easiest way to the most scenic route in town is through the cemetery.

It's a very large cemetery but it's not active and it does not have paved roads so I'm running across grass and probably an unmarked grave here and there.

I cut through there on my way to and back from every run. Do you think that this is disrespectful?

I'd stick to the roads within the cemetery and not run through the grass if I were you. I think jumping over graves (and possibly running over unmarked graves) is quite disrespectful. Not to mention, it could be unsafe if you accidentally don't see a small grave marker and trip over it.

I also would avoid the grass. Documenting historic cemeteries is one of my hobbies, and that is a sacred place to some people.

I wouldnt do it. There are just waaaay too many other places to run. Like another poster said, those are sacred places to a lot of people, and its not really a safe way or place to run because if you are on the grass, those flat headstones often make the surface terribly uneven so injury risk is very very high.

Why do you even NEED a "scenic route" to run?

Yes I am afraid I do find that disrespectful and I also photograph cemetery headstones for historical purposes and I don't step on the graves either because I was taught from the time I was a little girl that you don't step on the graves .

I'm in the minority but dead people are dead and don't mind if you run over them.

Fine to run through a cemetery, but stick to the cleared paths and stay off the grass.

Yup. I am superstitious about stepping on graves. That's a no no and disrespectful to the deceased's loved ones.

Have any of the residents complained?

It is a large cemetery and doesn't have paved roads, but it obviously has unpaved roads. Why can't you run on them? I don't think I have ever seen a relatively large cemetery with unpaved roads. That would make it difficult for funerals.
