You probably cross your legs at least once while you’re having dinner, working at your desk, or pretty much any time you sit down. Odds are, you don’t even realize you’re doing it — you just sit and cross one leg over the other, like you’ve done for years.
But experts say you might want to rethink that habit: Crossing your legs can actually have some negative health effects.
If I sat the way the article says to all the time that would cause back pains. IMO don't sit in any one position for long period of time. If possible get up and move around. When I can't changing position, crossing one leg or the other, sitting straight or even laid back for a few minutes relieves the pressure. Getting up and walking around does it even better.
varicose veins are unsightly and expensive to treat (for the insurance company) .. just developed them in one leg the last few months... they run in the family and like a bicuspid aortic heart value, are mostly genetic.
The idea that crossing legs causes them is not definite, however the great saphenous vein does run through that region and if the vein is pinched for a prolong period of time it could lead to the valve becoming incompetent. If that happens it tends to become a chain reaction as blood pools in valves lower and lower in the leg leading to that disfigured look and bulge. This is the vein they typically use if one requires a heart transplant... so if you do have it closed, you'll have less veins to choose from.
My back will "go out" meaning I move or lift something the wrong way, feel a slight sensation, and then have a sore back for a couple weeks, only if I stop jogging, rebounding, or doing some activity that loosens the back up. People's lack of 'bouncing around' in some activity probably causes them back issues... I rarely have a sore back.. virtually never if I maintain jogging a couple times a week.
