While I could push the mile and a half without a problem I certainly understand it's not something most could do. 8 min pace is fairly stout even if it's a mile and a half for all but the competitive or highly active runner

As usual, Yahoo is lacking in its reporting. These are the minimum standards to score 1 point in each category. To pass the fitness test, you have to get a score of 12 points and at least 1 point in each exercise. Here is the scoring breakdown:

By the way, running 300m in 52 seconds, probably works out to about a 66 sec. quarter - not exactly slow.

Good point. I'd still be able to max out this test.

At 25, yes.

At almost 61, not a chance. The sprint would definitely do me in. Might have done me in at 25. Not fast, but steady.

Add swimming, obstacle course and a few other things you have the fitness test for USN aviation officer candidates 35 years ago.

I might have trouble with the pushups if they are Marine pushups where you have to clap on each one.

I'm like someone else who posted who has not done sit-ups in years. I don't think sit-ups are a good exercise, so while my abs are in good shape, it is hard to predict I would do on something I haven't done in decades.

Most people who don't run regularly will overestimate their ability to run a distance for time.

It is more difficult that what people are thinking it is. As someone mentioned, there are 12 points needed, with a minimum of one point in each area. The thing that gets a lot of people is the sprint, most people never sprint, like never since high school or something, and are surprised by it when they do it, and it takes there energy out of them after.

The sit-ups are hand behind head, all the way up, there is a diagram on the form expected. Pushups are to where arm becomes parallel with the ground and back up. The thing is with the pushups, unlike in the military (at least the Navy), there is no resting allowed, so if you burn out you are done, you cannot rest and squeeze a few more out as it is not timed.

What I like to know is; why the different standards for men and women? Same job, same pay, but different standards?

Fair question. In the Marine Corps we grappled with the same issue regarding men doing 20 pull-ups and women doing the flex arm hang. We are transitioning to "fixing" the disparity by making the women do pull-ups too. You know, since we are equal. So now females have to do 8 pull-ups for a perfect score. Because we are equal.

I could probably pass but this test isn't easy because of the sprint and 5 minutes between each section.
