For the first time in over a decade, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is requiring all of its special agents to take a physical fitness test, the New York Times reported today.
1 minute sit ups :
Passing for women: 35+ sit-ups
Passing for men: 38+ sit-ups
300 meter sprint
Passing for women: 64.9 seconds or faster
Passing for men: 52.4 seconds or faster
Push ups
Passing for women: 14+ pushups
Passing for men: 30+ pushups
1.5 mile run
Passing for women: 13:59 or faster
Passing for men: 12:24 or faster
Push ups - no problem.
Sit ups are so old school. I haven't done them in years, and my back doesn't like it. I can hold the hell out of a plank, though. Side, hands, elbows, I can do it.
I don't run, either, so if I were to try the tests now, I have no idea if I'd pass. I wouldn't get winded, but I don't know if my lower body would cooperate.
The fact that both running tests are on a flat, man made track makes them infinitely easier. I could do 1.5 miles on my favorite trail within the time allowed but I would be hurting. On a flat track no problem. Same for the sprint. Push-ups and sit ups would be pretty easy. All in all I think the qualifications are pretty low but an agent isn't going to be out there physically taking people into custody like a police officer on patrol in a crime ridden area so I guess super hero strength and endurance arent really necessary.
They should add in some type of cross training move like burpees as well and maybe sub in another ab movement for the sit ups. No one does old fashion sit ups anymore. They do more damage to your back than they help your ab strength.
