1.5 yrs ago I had a good routine going on the treadmill, a run/walk combo. After about 2 mo in I crouched down at the dryer to get clothes out and something happened to my left knee/left knee cap. I would then have this shooting pain around my knee when I ran. I ended up not working out anymore because I started back to work full time. Well just last weekend I started trying to work out again and it's doing the same thing! After not doing anything work out wise and working at a desk job all day for the past 1.5 yrs you think my knee would have healed. I don't know what to do, really don't have time to get x-rays and physical therapy. I looked up my symptoms and the closest thing I could find was runner's knee. It only bothers me when I am running/speed walking on the treadmill.

So, you're wanting the 'quick fix' on a knee that you will need to use the rest of your life?? Your post says nothing about your ever seeing a MD for this, much less an Orthopedic specialty MD, so I have to think you haven't seen either one. From you post, that you haven't done any exercise or working out I have to deduce that your QUADS are majorly OUT OF SHAPE, thus cannot keep your knees (yes! even the good knee) in good alignment leaving you open to MORE injuries in the near future! I better stop here or I'll be MIS judged as not caring or abrasive. Something's wrong with this picture.....

You would have pain and weakness in regular walking if you had runner's knee. You might have some biomechanical problem that can be corrected with orthotics, therapy, or walking. Even if you don't sign up for PT, an orthopedic specialist can diagnose the problem and recommend treatment and exercises you can do at home.

You're exactly right, I have not been to a Dr. because once I stopped working out my knee never bothered me again, now fast forward 1.5 yrs later and I try to get into working out again my knee is doing the exact same thing. As of now, I may be futher inclined to contact a Dr.
