I know you weren't trying to convince me to start running. My intention wasn't to insult you, or any runners. Since we're talking about running, I was merely pointing out some of what's been found about running a lot over a long period of time. No need to get so defensive. o_O
Not defensive at all. But the topic was about how to make running more enjoyable.

The treadmill is the worst. I try to make it go by more quickly by putting it on full tilt at 3.3 mph but due to a double spinal fusion it causes pain. So if I drop it to level there is less of a workout and it's all I can do to stay on the thing for even 25 minutes.
Unfortunately, there are no adult/senior dance classes where I live, at the level I want/need to stay fit in the manner which is truly fun for me. I'm 64 years old.
That is understandable. After having performed ballet, I can see how ordinry exercise movements, limited by injury, might seem uninteresting. I hope you find the kind of class you are looking for. There should be a fun way for you to use your strength and agility.
how can you be bored? I mentally entertain myself by thinking about life, chooses, things to do... there is soo many conversation I have mentally with myself while walking/running, I never run out of topics to discuss with myself & debate
I'm pretty much the opposite; always inside my own head. Exercise is a welcome break from that. I mostly stop thinking and just feel my heart and lungs revving up, blood pumping, muscles contracting and body moving. I try to think only enough to keep track of time, reps and sets.
TV, music, treadmill desk for computer, magazine, book...
You have one of those treadmill desks? Awesome. How do you like it? I wanted to get one for work but the staff looked at me as if I were crazy. The only negative I see is I have many visitors during the week and it is strange for them. I look like a judge on a high bench looking down on them.
I cannot run on a treadmill, but love running outside in all types of weather, which makes it challenging. I also run different routes and distances depending on what I am training for. I think that you really have to find something you enjoy or you just won't keep with it.
On several occasions I have tried to go running or use a treadmill. However, each time I ended up quitting after five minutes due to extreme boredom. I have no idea how people can run for many miles when I can't even run a mile before giving up. How do people make running less dull and boring?
I'm one of the few people that PREFER the treadmill. I like the treadmill because I can keep my pace. Since I do intervals through an IPhone app the treadmill keeps me on track going up and down in speed. I also like that its indoors (AC) and I can drink my water while running without having to carry it. I have good music on my IPHONE and I do an app (beatburn) plus they have TVs at the gym. Whenever I run outside I find I only run half the distance and I run slower. I get a good 45 minutes on the treadmill.
I daydream. I really manage to tune out of the world (maybe a bit like Walter Mitty) and next thing I know 30, 40 minutes or more has passed. I relive past events, think about the future, even try to visualize books I've been reading (I can't read on a treadmill though, I get a headache). When I really get into daydreaming, I don't even notice I am working out, sweating, and breathing heavy either. But if I don't daydream, yeah, it's dull.
Outside is more challenging as others have said. It's probably more interesting as well (I tend to run on a track outside, which isn't as interesting as running on trails and such).
Your mind is somewhere else - on music, on TV, on some project or problem - people who can't do that won't enjoy treadmill exercise.
