On the machines, if you don't have set routines, use different random machines each time and you're not recording your results, you won't have the slightest idea if you're making any progress or not.
Wouldn't I be able to tell if I measured my body weekly with measuring tape, or tried on clothes?
OK, do tell why you should do cardio after, because I bet I could find ten other articles saying do it before (this is why I get so frustrated with all the advice out there). And dang it -- bummer! -- I was happy with wandering around the gym doing whatever machine looks interesting!
LOL. I run my 3 miles, or whatever my cardio is first...always have. As do many if my gym buddies. Others do it after....some in the middle. Really doesn't matter.
Doing cardio actually makes me more energetic. I always found that trying to do my weights first made me too pooped to run after. So do whatever works for you.
I don't think I can do cardio before weights, I think I would be too tired to lift anything. I do the same machines every time in the same order so I can keep some control on which muscles I work. As I mentioned, I am still losing a pound or so every week so I don't think I really need cardio but I figure, since I am already there, I should have at least do 20-30 min. of it. I will probably stop cardio once spring hits. I rather be outside. I also read in many places, once women pass 40, strength training is more important. Thanks for all the comments, this is very helpful. I have been feeling so good since I lost the weight, I also want to be strong and healthy.
It doesn't matter at all if you do cardio before or after. Do what is best for you.
Same for me. The only difference is if I run on a treadmill, I get all sweaty and drip all over the equipment.
