I tried Monster in January. It's ok. This month, I am trying Powerade.
Water. I NEVER consume any of that energy drink stuff. Red Bull, Monster, Amp, Full Throttle, 5hr Energy, etc. are all poison and should be avoided as energy drinks during workouts. For me, its water only during my workouts and at the most 1/2 to maybe 1 cup of black (NO SUGAR) coffee pre workout (but only early mornings).
When I am super tired and simply have nothing left in the tank, I will down a redbull and get my workout in.
I would never make it a regular thing though. As Kings said, they are terrible for your health.
If you're going to consume caffeine, the best time is 20 mins or so prior to arriving in the gym to give it time to get into your bloodstream. During the workout it doesn't make a lot of sense to consume a Monster, for example, because it will likely hit you well agfter you've finished. Drink water as others have said.

Energy drinks are insanely unhealthy.
I cosign on this.
I avoid drink anything in a can, or any powder you mix with water (especially stimulants). If your diet is spot on, you really don't need any pre-workout. Black coffee is as far as I will go if I need a boost.
I don't drink anything during workout. If I need an energy boost I will drink 1-2 cups of coffee beforehand.
