The whole issue of drinking vs. not drinking comes down to whether you have an addictive personality. I remember when I used to bartend and an AA group would come in for dinner. They would each drink 4-8 espressos. They just switched from booze to caffeine, arguably a healthier addiction but an addiction nevertheless.
Yep. Sounds like me. Totally replaced my alcohol intake with more coffee. Now I'm on to tea.

I'll go on these kicks where I won't drink at all for awhile, hit the gym more, tone up and lose weight, then when I get frustrated or have a terrible day, I'll drink heavily. The next day I feel bad, so I don't go work out, then have a couple more beers and yo-yo for several days.

The thing with me is that I'm fine not drinking. I don't have to have it. When I do drink, I'm basically full-on drinking, especially if I have a beer during the day. About the only exception is if I go out Sunday to the bar and socialize with the same people, I usually stop when I get home.

Yup. I've never touched alcohol with a ten foot pole partially because I get addicted to everything pleasurable. If I tried alcohol, I'm sure I'd like it and not want to stop.

So I go through phases of being addicted to exercise endorphins. Phases of sleeping for days on end. TV binge phases. Sex phases. Reeses peanut butter cup phases. Internet during every down moment. But no alcohol or drugs. I'd surely be a goner if I got one taste of it and liked it.
