What kind of dance?

I've looked into ballroom dancing and it's prohibitively expensive, at least for me. I've done salsa and many clubs around give free lessons. I've also done a little C&W here and there.

Dancing is great fun! Where I live, there are many ballroom studios that offer inexpensive group classes ($10 - 15 hour) and practice dances. All types of dancing offered, traditional smooth dances, salsa, swing, hustle, cha-cha, latin, etc. Look around and see if there are any where you live. Sometimes even at your local YMCA. Anyone can learn to dance.

Forget private lessons, they are prohibitively expensive and not worth it, IMO.

Yes, I do ballroom dance.

Private lessons are indeed very expensive, but I can't agree with "they aren't worth it", depending on your goals. They are the only way to get really good.

However, if you are just interested in learning some basics, you can find studios that offer group classes for $10-$20 per class. Just know that groups will generally teach you "what" (patterns), but less "how" (technique), which becomes increasingly important as you get to higher levels.

Salsa and swing (particularly west coast swing) are often separate communities from ballroom (though they are often included in BR programs too), so you may want to check those out as well.

We also have a few local parks and similar that offer free dancing lessons, so look around, you may find some affordable options.

Also check out community centers, colleges, and rec centers. When I was in college one of the residence halls had inexpensive dance lessons open to the community. We'd attend as students and plenty of adults were there too. About 40%.
