Ha! I watched that one,after I saw your post,and now I'm confused.

I'm wondering if the plank is good for a beginner/intermediate, but when you get to where doing it for one minute is easy, then you should take it to the levels in the second video?

I've done planks before, and I've never felt it in my abdomen. It was always my arms. I guess that means my arms are weak?

In any case, I'm going to do the plank in the morning. I don't need to do the advanced alternates in that other video.

As an older woman I find some exercises tough at times but do try and do some every other day... I use a pilates wheel and find it gets good results but diet is very important, first things first then work on all that other stuff..

Human physiology still hasn't changed. You can't "spot reduce" fat. All exercise contributes to burning fat, some more than others. It's always a good idea to build muscle strength. But exercising your abdominal muscles will do no more to reduce fat on your belly than any other exercise of similar type and intensity at another location.

Yeah...I don't get planks at all. They are too easy and I never feel like I've done anything. I much prefer crunches - as boring as they are, planks are much worse!

I like planks as an exercise, I find it good for my core. But I totally disagree that it helps my flexibility at all.

I also don't believe anything spot reduces either.

Planks are one of 7 ab / core exercises that I do daily.

And it's true that you can't spot reduce. But despite the title of the video, the video itself is not saying that you can spot reduce. It's saying only that planks boost your metabolism so that you burn fat more effectively.

Plank? Why not push-ups?

I do planks on occasion. I've found weighted crunches to be effective. Overall though, for defined abs, it comes down to cardio and diet (body fat %)
