Sure, it can be a very small part of your diet.

Personally, I wouldn't make it part of my diet.

It takes a lot of work/discipline to obtain and maintain a six pack. IME, if you're doing it strictly for vanity, its not going to last very long.

I am genetically disposed to be thin. My family shrivels with age. That said, I consume about 2300 - 3000 calories/day (more in winter - too hot to eat in summer in hot desert climate of Vegas). I only drink water, skim milk, and my homemade cocoa (I buy cocoa powder in 25lb bulk shipments). I eat almost the same thing every day in two meals:

first meal:
2 eggs, 3 pieces whole grain bread, 2 cups (about 12 oz) of cocoa (3 heaping tsp cocoa, 1.5 cups skim milk, 1.75 cups water - NO sugar, heat but don't boil)

last meal:
protein: 4 - 6 oz planters roasted peanuts
fruits: 1/2 lb fruit salad (made from real fruit)

carbs & veggies:
1/2 lb mixed vegetable salad w/oil based dressing
1/2 - 1 lb potatoes (microwaved w/smart balance spread) or rice or barley
OR
1 - 1.5 lb vegetable stir fry w/rice
OR (rarely)
spaghetti or tuna salad sandwich w/tomato & lettuce

dessert (sugar from lactose in milk):
one bowl shredded what squares w/skim milk (Kroger brand - NO sugar added)

I have no carbs other than beans, certain fruits, and dry wine. Planks, core exercises such as pilates and cardio can give you abs. Combination of both diet and exercise.
