Had to do it over again though, I'd do it the same way.

Organized sports ended at the high school level (football, baseball) but I continued with neighborhood activities like flag football, schoolyard hoops, and softball until age 29. But my damage is attributed to decades of pounding barbells.

One of the primary reasons I continue to be rather fanatical (these days with cardio via steppers, and strength via elastic bands instead of weights) is to fight insomnia, brought about by depression.

I look around and everyone's dead, wife, two best friends, and this triggers a depressive reaction.

You probably already know the answer, you have to get the exact amount of calories as well the perfect breakdown of macros to achieve this. It requires lots of food weighing and food planning, this is harder than any workout itself because it is something you do all day long, not just in the gym. That being said, if you can do it for a good solid month, you sort of get very good at guessing how many calories, how much of it is protein/carb/fat etc just by looking at something.

Worth a try, but it is hard. If you go this route, use a phone app or carry a notebook.

Honestly I think you have to do this, at least for a month. Then you will easily be able to guess how many calories a certain meal has.

Getting up at 5:00 AM in the winter to go to the gym. Can't do it. Hate going at lunch because I'm rushed, and going at night is no good for me. Cutting out sweets is a problem too. Trying to limit myself to dark chocolate only and also drink less alcohol. Back goes out regularly too, which can keep me out of the gym for weeks. There's plenty more, but these are the biggest.

Trying to avoid foods with all that added vegetable-oil, it makes my face break-out pretty badly.

Being generally weak and out of shape. A bad back had me largely inactive for some years and now, at 70, it’s a complete struggle to even maintain status quo.......I hate it, this getting old thing.

My diet, for sure.

I don't overeat, but I don't make the best choices.

Injuries. I suffered ankle injuries last June and July. Then a foot injury in December and early January. And as soon as that last one healed, an entirely different injury. It seems to be getting better, but I really want to get back on my treadmill!
