How is your nutrition and what is your age, daily alcohol and tobacco consumption. If your body doesn't have the proper constituents required to heal the injury it's not going to heal. That being said because I use pain killers very rarely when I do use them they work quickly and well. I take Naproxen only for persistent sprains or aches and it works when nothing else does.
I am 57. I don't smoke, drink moderate and eat well. I don't take any pain reducing medicine. It could help but worry with reduced pain I may over do it.
You said "a stage one strain"" Was this the diagnosis that the doctor gave you??
No doctor, just going off the symptoms described. I have cut back the walking I already am feeling less strain. I am going to do this for a few more weeks and slowly increase walking to see how it goes. I hate being idle but the rest seems to be working.

Do you have medical insurance? If so, i would suggest going to a urologist and getting checked. It could be something else.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am pretty sure it's a strain because I know exactly when it happened and what I was doing. I will ask my doctor about it though.
Update: I have backed off of my walking for the last 10 days. Muscle pain greatly reduced. I know I am not ready to go back to my regular routine. Still seems like good progress.
