Hello everyone. I am trying to find a cardio I can do in my home. My treadmill broke and the winter rain has set in so I can not do my 3 to 4 mile walks right now. I do have a weight bench with weights, and I have all the time in the world. I just need to find a program I can do within my house. I am pretty mobile, but I am 64 years old, so my balance is not the best. Can someone please give me some ideas.
I have a rowing machine that's fairly decent, bought on Amazon for a couple hundred bucks. Rowing is easy on the joints, yet a full-body cardio workout. I would think it's good for someone with balance issues, since one is sitting down and close to the floor, plus holding onto the pull-bar would probably provide some stability.
I don't like a full workout of just rowing, but I do mix it in with other things I do (slide board, dance cardio, weights, etc.). It provides a nice change of scenery (literally, too, since I have it facing out onto the view of the woods).
thank you both for the information you have provided. I will look into all the suggestions. I am in a suburban house, so my view is of other houses....
I have another question, is dancing a good cardio for working out. I have found a couple u-tube video's I like, but I was not sure if it is considered a good cardio work out.
Oh, yes, dancing can be very good cardio. I could never follow along well with videos, but they did teach me a few cardio dance moves that I mix in with my own routine. I put on fast music and keep moving!
You might look up Leslie Sansone on youtube. She has "walking aerobics" that are low impact but you can make the workouts more intense by carrying weights etc to amp up the intensity. Plus her videos are well done and she has a nice personality that she brings to the workouts.

Definitely second this recommendation! Check and see if some of her videos are available on your cable's On Demand fitness channel. If not, the DVDs are very reasonably priced. Leslie is a great motivator!
Thank you for the heads up for Leslie Sansone, I will have her on my tv in a few minutes to try her out. This is my walking time, and its raining hard right now, so a u=tube workout it is.
steps have worked for me.
just up and down regular steps.
fast or slow. use the handrails.
I am not able to get to the school due to the rain.
