Soda and juice are well over 95% water anyway, so you might just supplement your "pure" water intake with some juice, soda, or sport drinks.

I think you can just feel more thirsty when you flush out too many electrolytes, which sounds like is happening already.

Most people who die from drinking water try to drink liters of it within minutes. Either that or they do long periods of strenuous exercise without letting the electrolytes replenish while drinking lots of water.

The MYTH OF DRINKING 8 TALL GLASSES OF WATER A DAY is just that, a myth. Every single person has different water needs, just like every single person should not be on a 2,000 calorie per day diet! Hello! Not a single person in a room of 100 people has the same body, even if they are twins. 8 tall glasses of water might be healthy if you are a very large+tall person, or you eat crap-loads of salty foods (which isn't good for you anyway). It's like Lewis Black said, ever since they started selling water in bottles, you have to drink eight bottles. You drink water when you're thirsty. Hydrate? They just made that s**t up.

I went through my 'water addiction' phase last year actually. Same deal as you, I got off soda (of which I was drinking six to seven cans a day), and I also would drink two or three cups of coffee per day. When I stopped all that (to remove my dependency on caffeine) I began drinking from the drinking fountain at work. I would drink every fifteen minutes, big long swallows each time. I was urinating constantly. I began to have much less energy and endurance at the gym, and actually started to get more depressed. This was after a few weeks of mega-water drinking. I finally dropped back to only drinking when I felt thirsty in my mouth, and everything was fine after that. I found that two bottles of water per day is enough for me, because I also get water in the foods that I eat, and the decaf coffee which I now have.

But please, to every single one of you: Don't listen to recommended standards+guidelines put out by the government or anyone else. The food guide pyramid is a joke as well. Only a marathon runner should have 'grains' as the huge bottom of their pyramid. No single person has the exact same calorie needs. Or water. Or fat. Or ANYTHING. You find a nutritionist, a good personal trainer, and listen to your own body. You will find a diet+workout plan that is perfect for you.

No offense to the Waterboy

Natalayjones, way to go on getting rid of or cutting back on that soda. And other junk foods. That's terrific.

I guess you figured out that's probably too much water. But still get in what you need.

I agree with chiaroscuro, in that because we are all different, different body sizes and different body needs, we're not all going to drink the same amount of water.

I don't wait till I'm thirsty to drink water. It's my primary liquid. I also drink about a glass of fruit juice (100%) and a glass of DairyEase most days. About 3-4 12 oz bottles of water for me.

I do think drinking water is one of the best things you can do for yourself, but yeah, just keep it in moderation. Keep up the good work, changing to better habits, natalyajones.
