Huge amounts of stress in my life led me to skip the gym for about a year. So I was a bit soft for a while. I'm still pretty soft, but the ramping up of even MORE stress has given me an excuse to get back in the gym the last month or so. My arms and chest are getting a little bigger and a lot stronger, but the dough isn't budging yet. I've gained about 5 pounds in the last three months. I'm definitely trying to lose and not gain, but if this is the first step then so be it.

Anyway, the gym was pretty empty yesterday morning so I wasn't embarrassed to try some pullups. Palms out of course. To my surprise I managed 3 sets of 6. Not much, but it was a pleasant surprise seeing as how I didn't know I was strong enough to be able to do more than a couple yet. I'm comin' back baby!!

now that is impressive. You jumped from the floor up onto a 60" high platform? I used to do my 'box jumps' up onto a picnic table. Not sure of the exact height but probably 30-35 inches, and I thought I was badarse.

Today I did my half mile repeats. 10X.5 mi. The last couple times I tried to do this I crapped out around rep 6-7 because I was trying to push the pace too much in the early going, so I was happy to have it go well today.

1.5 mile warmup, then 10xhalf-mile w/ quarter mile recovery jog, finished with cool down slow jog barefoot, a little over 2 miles. 11 miles total running, approx 83 minutes. Sunday I will probably run a 12K that is put on by the Seattle Seahawks every year and get a better gauge of where I am. My big race is bloomsday on May 6, about 5 weeks away.

Today I ran in the Seattle Seahawks 12K, finished in the top 10 among male runners @49:xx. OK but not really great. Ran behind another runner and waited too long to pass him, relaxing too much from around mile 4-6. Anyway that is my tempo run for the week. I'm a little overweight and have been drinking way too much alcohol!

Well I ran my interval workout today. 1.5mile warmup, then 10 by 1/2mile(805 meters), with quarter mile slow jog. Never did quite get to my goal of running these at 11.2mph, where I had hoped to be by now. I run most of them at 10.5, the last few at 10.7, and the very last at 11. Followed by a little over 2 mi. barefoot cooldown jog.

My big race (Bloomsday 12K) in 2 weeks and 2 days. Goal was 45 min. but now I doubt that I'll hit that. Maybe in the 47's though.

yesterday ran my final tuneup--5K race, a quite disappointing time of 20:xx, but the last mile of this race is mostly a long gradual uphill, so I guess is not meant for speed. Also came in 3rd among males, and 1st in my age group.

That's a slow pace for a 5K though. Now I'm starting my taper and hopefully a well-regulated taper will give enough edge to get me into 47:xx.

20:xx 5k time?!! Nice.

I've been running 5ks the past couple weeks in prep for the warrior dash. I started at around 27 min, and now am down to 23.5. Not great, but considering I've always been a sprinter, I'm satisfied with a <8 min mile pace..

I know I won't place anywhere near the top of the leaderboard but I'm hoping to finish in less than 30 min.

@170 lbs. No maxes, maybe I can do those if I have a spotter.

Barbell bench press is up to 255 for 10 reps. I can squeeze our 275 for about 4 to 5 reps, but that's usually in the final set of a five-set series.

Barbell seated shoulder press is up to 155 for 10 reps.

Hammer curls I finally got into 55 lbs for 8 reps

I changed my workout schedule to a bit of a higher volume. Instead of doing 4 sets of 10 reps per exercise for about 5 exercises per workout (one body part a day), I am moving to 5 sets of 12 reps, same amount of exercises. I got kind of bored and used to the 10 rep workouts, and I want to challenge my endurance a little more.

Ran The Dash To Cure Diabetes this morning. It is a 4 mile forest preserve trail run. It was very hot - supposed to hit 90 deg. today. My only goal was to finish it at a steady run/jog which I did - no need to post my time! lol

This was my 12 y.o.'s first race. He now runs faster than me and was the top finisher in his age group. He'll be doing cross country at school next year.
