Good job on the 40 lbs ....way to go. I feel like I do the same. I eat right but cant seem to keep on track with the exercising. It is so hard. I remember when i was younger, I would just eat less and drop the weight. Now I eat less and I gain weight...so go figure. Let me know if you get out of the slump and how you did it. I want to lose 20 lbs in the worst way

Also, most importantly, do anaerobic exercise: i.e. pump iron. Good luck!

On a related note of this thread, did you folks read about the woman who lost 160 pounds by going on the raw diet? Kudos to her!
Maybe now that the weather is not so hot, I will go for a jog. When I ride my bike to work, it isn't really a workout because its so flat and I am only doing 23 minutes each way, so hardly enough for a work out. I am lax in doing the weights, I know I need to try harder at that. Thanks for your information

That's still good you're doing about 45 min. of bike riding per day, even if at a relaxed pace. You're welcome for the info. and good luck!

Well, we're all ears (or eyes, whatever) when you do. Good stories, folks.

Hello!
Looking for positive people and motivation! I bike to Curves almost every day, but don't be impressed. It's only 2 blocks from house. And, yes, when I get there I work out! The good thing is my bike....an old beach bike with no bells or whistles. Curves is great for me, as an older woman, and I also walk about 6 miles/week. I'm extremely active and don't sit around much....(small business owner, and on the go) Still, I need new ideas and support to stay healthy!

Question: Should I eat before my workout, or after?

rdlr, in my personal experience, I need to eat both before AND after. Depending on workout & time of day. I often take a 5am spin class - yes 5am! I usually have a half serving shake with complex carbs & protein, or a small pc. of toast w/ peanut butter & 4 oz of milk. Gives me enough energy to get thru the class without bloating or weighing me down. Then afterward I have the other half of the shake + some fruit or else I try to have a real healthy breakfast.

I have the trying part down pat - it's the "succeeding" part I haven't yet mastered!

Thanks, Piper, for your suggestions.

I've heard both....eat before you work out, to burn calories. Then, some say afterwards. I've been eating my breakfast first, so I think I'll continue.

My breakfast is Uncle Sam Cereal/with skim milk...lots of flax seed, no sugar. That's great stuff! I love a half/banana in it, but I think I'll wait until after the workout for that.

Thanks, again!

^ I'd also recommend eating lightly at least an hour before working out and then within 1/2 to 1 hour of working out. Remember to have a good balance of fats, proteins, and carbs during both mini-meals. Keep it up!

Thank you. Another question:
Is it true that after a workout, the best thing to eat is protein?
