i think as long as the programs in the ads involve some kind of diet and exercise, they will work for myself, i'm doing the p90x thing at the moment (well actually a less intense exercise version by the same company, slim in 6) and after a week and a half i'm starting to notice changes, but i especially feel great from the exercise.

I've ordered tons!

My favorites:

The Firm System with the Transfirmer
The Firm Balance Disc
The Firm system with the weights--this is good, but it's a little easy for me, so I do this when I'm too tired to deal with more intense workouts. I probably do this about once per week, and more intense stuff 5X per week.
I also really like the Turbo Jam workout ball series. There are 2 DVDs in this group. The other Turbo Jam workouts are eh...ok.

I've also ordered Yoga Booty Ballet, and it's way too easy. I might do one of these when I'm way too tired to workout, but I want to move around a little.
I did the Slim in 6, and while I think that the exercises are effective, the DVD is soooooooo boring that I would rather drive a railroad spike into my brain than do these. I can't stand the set up, and the chick is super annoying.
I've done Gunnar Peterson's Core Ball and it's so easy that it's a waste of time. He spends so much stinking time explaining the exercises rather than just doing them. I suppose this might be a good workout for someone who has never worked out, and also supplements it with some cardio, but I'd rather just do the Firm for 45 minutes and get my cardio and resistance in, and have some fun getting sweaty.

Sometimes I do the 10 minute quick fix pilates and yoga dvds when I'm sore from painting the house, or working. Sometimes I do them before bed, even if I've already worked out previously that day.

I've heard awesome things abut the Kathe Friedich's system. I've heard that it's like a super-charged Firm system.

I haven't ordered anything, but decided to take advantage of my extra cable channels..we get the fittv channel, so I am exercising to bodies in motion with gilad. I figured it was good to start somewhere, and I was already paying for it!

I'm doing the P90X (yes, the full-on brutal kill ya or cure ya version). I am finally past the point where I hurt every day, and I'm keeping up with the videos now after a couple weeks of it. It's hard-core, but it works great.

Speaking of the P90X, I REALLY want to do it and a friend has offered to burn a copy for me but I'm worried that it's going to be too much and then I'll quit it and be such a loser LOL - I will definitely try it though. I've already started working on "me" by bicycling an hour and day at a VERY fast pace. It's been a lot of fun but hot and sweaty for sure! I used to do the elliptical every day and just got really bored with it.

With the P90X, do you have to have special equipment? Are you folks who are doing it now doing anything different with your diet? Just curious - my one good thing is that we already eat pretty healthy - but I don't have gym equipment, weights, etc.. just curious what you really need to succeed with the program....

You don't need to have special equipment. I would suggest purchasing 2 small dumbells or resistance bands. Don't worry if it seems hard. Do a modified version as you will build strength as you continue to do it. P90X is a great way to get in shape. Also check out Power 90. It is a little bit less intense but still a great workout and a great way to build up to P90X.

Keep Moving!

I've gotten the malibu pilates thing a couple of weeks ago but I ordered it off ebay.
Several years ago when I was extremely overweight, I looked for (VCR tapes) at the time.
The infomercials that had a bunch of women looking and acting like 'coked up cheerleaders' were a turnoff to me because I wanted to see someone I could relate to.
At the time, Richard Simmons "sweatin' to the oldies" was about the only one that had people of all sizes and he got me on my way to exercising.
I'm happy to see that more people are making dvd's of people of all sizes because I think that's about the only way someone trying to lose weight or get in shape can relate. My s/o disagrees but he's never had a weight problem either and I'm sure he likes watching the coked up cheerleaders. LOL

I know who you're talking about! I have a Body By Jake DVD with 3 workouts on it. It has a total body workout, a lower body workout, and an abs workout. It's my favorite strength training DVD out of all the ones I've used.

Denise Austin came out with new DVDs last year. I've borrowed them from the library. I like her Burn Fat Fast - Cardio Blast workout.

I've seen Tony Little on QVC or the Home Shopping Network or whatever channel he's on selling the gazelle.

As far as ordering from infomercials I ordered Turbo Jam earlier this year. The cardio workouts really get my heart rate up. The strength training one is ok.
