I saw on TV someone asked Michael Phelps this same question. He's a huge fan of hip hop so he said he always listens to 50 Cent, the Game, Snoop Dogg, to get himself pumped up and inspired for his races.

I have a mix of stuff, hinder, ac/dc, kiss, then throw in some pop and little rap and I am good to go. I do have to say though when I am going to lift heavy I like hard rock for that, don't know why.
