Do you have one, where you eat whatever you want? Some experts recommend this, in order to keep your sanity and a balanced attitude towards a lifestyle, not a diet.
I don't have a cheat day, but I do allow myself 3 'cheat' meals throughout the week, so if I go out to lunch on Wednesday with co-workers and or we end up at a place like Maggianos, I won't feel pressure to just have a salad.
Most people use a weekend day (Fri-Sun) as their cheat day, but I feel that it's easier to allow 3 meals within a week, instead of just letting loose for one day.
Keep in mind I don't always exercise the 3 meals within a week, and there are no rollover plans for what I don't use.
They no longer are cheat meals if you do it 3x per week. You should just call it bad eating because that is what it is.
I see it like this: If they say allow yourself a cheat day where you can eat whatever you want, all day long, what's the harm in splitting it into 3 meals and spreading them out through the week, especially if I don't use them if I don't have to?
There are 2 ways to look at it. You can use the cheat meals/cheat days to blow your diet OR you can use them to reward yourself. Me, I don't believe in cheat days. A cheat meal? Sure. Not as a reward but in an emergency. Myself I'll still eat like I'm supposed to but will allow myself a dessert or something. My last one was a slice of really good cake and a cup of coffee.
There are plenty of articles for eating healthy out there. In my time of eating healthy I've only eaten a single salad so please don't think that your only option is a bowl of lettuce.
