I've had a cold (I think) for the past 2 days. Yesterday I felt worse than I do today. Just coughing and a semi-soar throat. Not sure if I have a temperature because I don't have a thermometer. Anyway I was wondering if it'd be safe to take a 2 mile run tonight. Thanks in advance.

I'm a high level athlete and my opinion is to stay in side and get rested up.

Sitting,
I used to be an avid runner. 33 min 10K; 50mi/week, etc.

This is how I would deal with colds. On the "front side" of the cold, when my body was wearing down, you have a temp, you have a runny nose or sore throat, etc. I ABSOLUTELY did not run, but rested. The times I did not do this, my body got slammed. If I did this today, man, I would be in serious trouble.

On the backside of the cold, when I was semi-well rested, throat was fine, but I had a stuffy nose, massive phlegm in the sinus cavities, etc., I would do easy to lightly moderate runs. THis had the effect of clearning out the gunk in the sinus cavity lickety split. It was awesome. Worked each time to a charm and got me running 3+ days earlier and eliminated those semi-annoying days of stuffy noses and tissue paper.

Coughs? Rest. Always. Lungs are far more sensitive.

Hope that helps!
