Thanks, I'm hoping to attend the Introduction to Weight Training Class on Saturday morning, and if I do use any machines now, the weights will be very light.

Oh don't be such a stick in the mud! It was just a motivational expression . You're never too old to use sex as a motivational tool lol.

Just trying to help motivate you. I know it helps me when I'm running around outside. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

When I go places, I go with a purpose in mind, and it's not sex or looking for a partner. The same applies for going to the Y. That's for the younger crowd.

Very focused, that's a good thing . The Y? Really? Here the Y typically consists of the older crowd....LA Fitness is our meat market....can't stand that place. I swear I would be floored if I walked in there and saw somone actually working out to work out lol .

Back pain and arthritis scream for water exercises. Since I'm not a doctor and don't know the reason/extent of your back pain I would hate to tell you a class that could possibly worsen your pain. This would be a great question for your doctor. Maybe it is something that yoga could help.

I meant to say that the Y is for the older crowd. I belonged to 24hr fitness about six years ago, and didn't like it. I took my first class last night - Yoga, and I can tell the difference already. I wasn't as stiff this morning, as I usually am. The instructor said not to take his yoga class more than twice a week, so my next yoga class will be Friday night after step aerobics. Today, I'm taking a Tai-Chi class. I'm going to take advantage of the day classes while I can. I'll see how I feel next month, maybe I can start taking the Pilates classes, too.

The Y that I belong to does have younger people as members, but they don't "dress up."

I know that as a couch potato,.....
As a couch potato, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to purchase a rebounder ( mini trampoline ). Keep it in the same room as your TV. Whenever a commercial comes on, get on the rebounder and do some jumping. Keep jumping or running in place thru the commercial. Over the course of a week, the minutes really add up and you will feel better while hardly breaking a sweat. Rebounding is easy on the body and great for the circulation of blood and lymph.

Never again allow yourself to sit thru a commercial. In addition to the greater fitness, you'll be less inclined to buy this, that, and the other thing as the TV god suggests. You'll also be asking your doctor far fewer questions about the latest drug scam to hit the airwaves.

If you are in couch potato mode and not watching TV, never let an hour go by without spending 5 active minutes on your rebounder. Heck if you follow this strategy you won't need any of the other programs, but you may choose to participate in some of them anyway....just for the fun of it.

BTW...the jumping need not be strenuous or vigorous. Even very subtle up and down movements without your feet ever leaving the mat will have great benefit. Use discretion and proceed slowly.

A trampoline would be nice, but I have nowhere to put one, and when I watch TV, I'm not inclined to buy anything. I have a friend who teaches an aerobics/pilates class, but it's too intense for me to take. The Y does have Pilates classes twice a week, and I plan to work up to taking one at least a week.

This company has folding rebounders that take up less space. They are a bit pricy. The best rebounders on the market with a bounce unmatched by any others I've used.
