I've had back problems from time to time. It comes and goes. Exercise makes all the difference in the world. You can start light. Even a walk around the block is good.
I took my first yoga class Monday night, and could tell the difference already in the morning. I was stiff, but not as stiff as I had been. No one showed up for the Tai-Chi class, but it's being moved to evenings starting in July. The next yoga class is Friday night, and I may take a Pilates class once a week.
I live in a crummy neighborhood, and don't care to walk in it. But when I return to work in the fall, I'll be walking at lunchtime, depending on how long my lunch hour is on that particular assignment, is how long I'll be walking.
[quote=moved;9383697]When I get up in the morning, my lower back is stiff, and sometimes it's hard for me to get out of bed without holding onto something, and I have to take a hot shower to get moving. After that, I'm ok until the next morning.
is it time for a new mattress? they don't last nearly as long as people think. i too have stiffness and arthritis that i fight every single day. when i loosen up, i can do a lot...but until i loosen up i have to be so careful.
a hot tub really helps me, too.
hope you find what works for you.
It has nothing to do with the mattress, although I am planning to buy a new bed in the next few months, but not for that reason, though. It's called age and arthritis. I've had three yoga classes so far, and no longer have to sit in a hot tub to get moving anymore. Even though I can't do all the poses, I can tell you that the yoga classes definitely help, and I'll be continuing with them. I'm also doing step aerobics three times per week, and will be trying Tai Chi in a couple of weeks.
