When is someone considered physically fit?
What does the term "physically fit" mean? How does one gauge themselves as being physically fit? I am curious if the idea of being physically fit entails just the physique, or endurance, or a combination of internal/external shape. What should the average physically fit person be able to do?
I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question.

My definition of fitness; a high degree of strength, flexibility, anaerobic and aerobic conditioning combined with the ability to utilize these characteristics with maximum biomechanical efficiency in order to perform at that athlete's given activity at the most elite level possible. That is fitness.

A high degree of strength: Yep.
Flexibility: A lot.
Anaerobic conditioning: Yeah.
Aerobic conditioning: My asthma limits that to a certain degree.
I guess I'm fit, I look it too .

Thanks everyone. I know I had a lot more work ahead of me but I wanted to have some type of gauge other than weight/BMI.

I actually still like the physical fitness tests we were given in middle/junior high school:
How fast can you run a mile?
How many pullups in one minute?
How many situps in one minute?
How many pushups in one minute?
Can you climb all the way to the top of the rope/pole?
I cant remember the actual grading system for this, but I do remember me and a few other kids in 8th grade ran the mile in like 6 minutes.
Personally, I dont think you can call yourself physically fit if you CANNOT do the following:
Run a mile in under 7 minutes (if I as an 8 grade kid ran a mile in 6 minutes, any adult should be able to do 7 minutes)
Run a 5k in less than 28 minutes
Do 10 pullups (male) or 6 pullups (female) in a minute
Do at least 15 pushups without stopping (male or female)
Touch your toes without bending your knees
Jump rope for 5 minutes

If you can bend over backwards and kiss your own buns, I do believe you have reached the pinnacle of physical fitness!
(I bet there are some yoga masters who probably can actually do it too.)
