But, Cosmic - take the compliment!!
Many malls open early for walking clubs and several actually know the mileage along the various floors of the mall. For example, in the largest mall in my area, one length of the first, second or third floor is one quarter mile. Before spring arrives, I'll certainly be doing my time at the mall.

You're right MN2CO, I did brush off your compliment. In fact, as I was out for a walk during my break, I realized what I did, and I was going to add a thank you to my post #49, but you had already written your post #60.

THANK YOU for the compliment.....I am a geuius!

I always like to verify that kind of stuff. EG: I know for a fact that many of the distances in the traill guide books are not accurrate. When I find a discrepancy between the given mileages and the mileages obtained from my methodologies, I give more credibility to my methodologies becasue I know they are acurrate from having tested them so frequently. It is just human nature to round off in-exact distances. If you rely upon the given distances, you may be short changing yourself, or perhaps you are walking further than you think you are. If I find the discpepancy to be insignificant, then I forget about. If it is a more significant discrepancy than I take it into consideration. But that's just me. Other people will be quite content to accept the given distances at face value without question.

Many geniuses here and I am going to start printing all of these geniusmometer tips and putting in a binder so that I can figure out what, where and when. I bet you anything I will have to carry it around with me for a while as I try to figure things out. I have never been a walker!

I'll take whatever you all say at face value.

A wondeful world of discovery awaits you, and probably a higher level of fitness too. If you stay with it over the long haul and don't overdo it right out of the gate, you're also likely to have alot of fun with your new endeavour.

Big'n enters, COUNT ME IN. Charley, I am here and need to walk more than anyone here. I am 300 pounds of pure motivation!

I only have one pair of tennis shoes, and most likely won't be buying any in the near future, but I am there all the way with you and the rest.

Live in the country, so there won't be any traffic on our gravel road to worry about. The stupid neighbor dogs might me a problem, but I will deal with them when it happens. No malls for 60 miles, so that is out. I like to walk at the lake. I always take my camera and my GSD. Sometimes the yorkie/mutt goes, because she has so much energy, it is fun to see her run around smelling pee.

I haven't heard that OP song in a very long time. Good song.

Yesterday I picked a point where the odometer hit a nice round number. I could have sworn it was at least a mile from there to my house. WRONGGGGG. Only 1/2 mile. Round trip would be ONLY 1 mile and it sure is a long stretch (in my mind). It'll take me a year just to do that one! LOLLLLLLLL

I'm really going to have to start warming up now. My biggest concern is this pain I have in my hip. Almost two years ago, it was diagnosed as trochanteric bursitis. I've gone through tons of X-rays, MRIs, medications, lidocaine patches, joint injections, PT, etc. and they still can't figure it out. None of the treatments has worked. The last idea is that it must be a nerve in my spine L something and S something which SEEMS to be causing the pain. It makes it hard to walk any real distance. Yet, I've been told I need to walk.

Sounds like sciatica to me. Have you tried going to a chiropractor for adjustments? Can't hurt and might be just what you need to get you straightened back out. I went for many years when I owned my hair salon and the insurance paid for tune ups! lol

My problems are my knees and feet. My right knee had surgery from 3 meniscus tears in 04. I was told then I was a prime candidate for 2 knee replacements as they are both shot from arthritis and old injuries, but the doc said the insurance wouldn't pay for them due to my age. So I nursed the left after the surgery on the right. Last fall I tore the inner meniscus in my left knee. I had gone back to my old doc who is an OD. He didn't want to refer me out for surgery. He gave me an injection which lasted exactly two weeks. I have nursed the left for a year now. I am determined to walk. Even if I need elastic knee braces and a cane to do it safely!!!

My feet get wicked sore and swell like crazy. I'm spending this time between now and 1 January getting answers and whatever resolutions I can to these issues because I am getting my life back Dammitalltohell!!! I am sick of being a slave to pain and discomfort!!!!! If Charley can do this, then so can I because he's endured far more than me!!!!!!!!!! That's my motivation!

I am so into this, too, count me in!! I hopefully will be moving cross country early next year, (that would be to Co, Cosmic!) so i will be interrupted. but then i'll have lots of new places to explore.
Hiking the Colorado Trail is on my life list of things to do, so this will be great practice!!!
