Currently, no, I'm not hula hooping now. But it does bring back memories when I used to do it all the time. Those were fun days...

I built up my bicep muscles in the weeks it took me to learn that one!

Ow. I can't seem to stop my shoulder from doing all the movement and my hands are killing me. i think i need to pad my hoop !

To make a hoop:

There's also a link to a site that has tons of fancy tape, but for starters you can use electrical tape. I'm assuming you meant your unwrapped hoop is store bought, because the tubing with no tape is really slick! Mine aren't perfectly even, but it just takes a lot of time and patience, and keeping an eye on the gaps to make sure they stay about the same length apart.

For practing lots of hand tricks, you definitely want a lighter hoop. The first hoop I made was very heavy and I could only roll it over my hand for a few minutes before it would start to hurt and get bruised.

Here are the two I use the most, I have another one that I did a really bad and rushed taping job on, and the other one i've made I gave to my mother-in-law. The start up price for making your own is kind of high, but you end up with enough materials to make quite a few hoops so individually, they don't cost that much.

Thanks for info. yes, i did end up with a few bruises on my hands! I thought $20 to wrap my hoop was a bit expensive, but maybe it isn't??

my DH is an electrician so i could use his tape but i checked out the website identi-tape.com and lots of cool colors and choices!!! i can't decide!!
