For weight-loss or retention, before.

But my mother always preached that walking (not the cardio type) was good for a full stomach because it helped it to "re-settle". I didn't agree with Mom on a lot of things, but this is one that I've got to agree with.

When the blood goes to your muscles when it should be in your stomach digesting it does make you feel ill or even puke. Not fun!

It's better to exercise vigorously before you eat. Never do it afterwards.

Yet, I was at a Health Spa (read: Adult Fat Camp!), and they always made us schedule in time for a 30 minute walk after the lunch/dinner hour. You would have your meal, sit around and gab for awhile with the other "inmates", and then everyone would be out walking. Mind you, PRIOR to the meals we also were working out.

It's best when you do it before eating rather than after. It's much better for your body's system.

A little of both? A heavy workout or brisk or long walk/run definitely before a meal, but for me a moderate walk is always welcome after dinner.
