I'm on my first day and I've made a slight miscalculation: I've TRIPLED the maple syrup content in my lemonades! So, I'll dial it down for my last few lemonades today, lol.

Default I believe in juice fasts

Since 1996, I have fasted twice a year. Always a juice fast that lasts 10 days. The longest I've gone is 14 days. The benefits are enormous. Every skin blemish disappears. My skin is smoother in fact, shaving is a lot easier. Weight loss can be as much as 30 lbs. My stomach and waistline shrink. My concentration level is heightened and I gain great clarity. I am far more aware of my internal state and more calm as a result. Skin discolorations disappear. My eyes appear brighter. Sleep apnea goes away. Just a better sense of well-being. My taste buds become very sensitive during the fast, and afterwards I have to be careful what I eat. I don't have cravings for hamburgers, candy, or junk food. If I eat a hamburger, I can tell if the grease used to make it is old. I can taste the salt and if the mustard and ketchup are old. I can taste the chemicals in food so I avoid them. This fast I learned from Linda Page's book, "Healthy Healing." Instead of maple syrup, I use honey.

I'm certainly and advocate for the body's ability to heal itself and I've experienced this during my fasts.

Their theory is that your stomach shrinks over the course of three weeks so that you feel full eating less food.

There's also some stuff about detoxing your body, which is often disputed.

Anyway, has anyone tried this, or at least know people who have.

I'm eager to try this.

edit: as a backdrop, I'm on an exercise regimen for the past week and a half, and have basically lost no weight at all. My calorie consumption, although I have not counted exactly, is approximately the same as in the past when I did not have a regular exercise regimen.
Supposedly singer, Beyonce does this cleanse. Whatever. I would certainly be taking a supplement if I did it for three weeks because you aren't going to be getting ANY nutrition during this time and your water soluble vitamins, is going to take a big hit.

There are also good cleanses from mybepure.com that will cleanse your liver and whole body which I can recommend, if you are interested in taking it to the next step.

You should actually check out the nutritional content analysis I did earlier in this thread: the combination of sea salt, lemons and maple syrup provide a very high content of vitamins and minerals. The nutritional content of those three ingredients alone in the quantities recommended is far superior to the typical american fare.

Based upon my research, this is not only safe, but has the potential to be highly beneficial. This is my first day, and I'm not the slightest bit hungry. This is after 3 lemonades in half a day.

Let me tell you this: most people have no idea how addicting processed food with all of it's fat, sugar and refined salt can be. The food manufacturers DESIGN IT THAT WAY SO THAT YOU WILL STAY ADDICTED.

YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE SUPPS OR MEDS WHEN FASTING. CONSEQUENCES CAN BE FATAL.

I think remembering reading an article on that and she only took in the lemon and pepper. No syrup. But you are right. It is going to take a big hit and its exactly why undernourished people should not fast. Its also why its not a good idea to overextend the fast beyond natural hunger returning. You should not have the mindset of : ok I am going to do this for 10 days. But should think more like: I would like to do it for 10 days but I am going to see if my body is ok with that.

You do not need to do any additional cleansing with the master cleanse. It is a full body cleanse.

Pitt, I appreciate you lookin' out. Truly.

I've just wrapped up two days and I gotta say, day one was not that easy. I thought I would breeze right through. I stayed home and worked at home as usual, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing to do on the MC. I focused on every little sensation in my body for signs of concern.

I had a headache later in the day, and felt considerable hunger.

Day 2, I commuted to the office and had a long day of work. I actually felt BETTER driving and it's not a short drive by any means, so no issues there.

My job is moderately physically active. I did feel lightheaded once or twice for a moment, but that's happened before, lol.

Overall, great day at work, I was filled with energy, and I thought I was rockin' the house.

MC is A LOT easier if you're out of the house, focused on work and doing things. Otherwise, you'll focus on every little thing happening with your body if you're at home alone.

On the positive side, the plaque on my teeth is starting to clear up, and my skin looks much nicer: maybe because I'm drinking so much water and everything is organic?

edit: I think I know what's going on with the 'headaches.' I noticed before when eating cold foods such as ice cream, I'd get something akin to a headache from the cold food. Since I make a batch of lemonade (sans cayenne which I add later), I always drink it nearly ice cold. And since I'm doing this all day...

I'm a little concerned about protein content.

I'm thinking of taking wheatgrass, but this only provides 2 grams of protein, rather than the 55 recommended.

If I transition off after 3 days, can I simply switch back to solid food or should I follow the 3 day transition of orange juice, soups and salads?

I made a leap of faith, but this protein issue concerns me.

I would still transition. you'll get some, but little, protein from vegetables. was there anything in the book about it? i would think a few days without protein, hence the fast, is ok for the body. did you get the 'mind clearing' feeling yet?

I would not take that. Part of why this works is because it changes your body's ph to help scrub out. The greens could reset it. It would be great to take after the fast. It is not a way of living so do not worry about protein during the fast. You get that on the follow up. Make sure you have a lemonade in the car if you are driving or have one right before. I would say not to drive at all when you get to around day three because you can feel very washed out. When you get a headache, have a lemonade or a water. Its a detox symptom.

Well, thank you for your responses. I'm reading another board on MC and a few people over there do the wheatgrass juice thing (2 oz. a day). It's supposed to be potent: very high in nutritional content, including amino acids.

I'm planning on a 7-12 day MC. I'll take it day by day. There are noticeable benefits, which I will document as I near the 7 or 10 or 12 day mark!
