According to the figures I've seen, it's more like 3500-3750lbs depending on FWD or AWD.
I've driven a similarly-sized Ford Escape with a 2.0 turbo. It had plenty of scoot. I trust the Evoque does too unless you intend to drag-race it, in which case you're in the wrong vehicle.
I agree with you but at the same time, if you are spending $40-50k, I would definitely appreciate a little more oomph.
D90s have achieved cult status and their prices reflect it! I didn't think they were that great when they were new!
I'm going to import one from the UK. Way cheaper! They did suck when they were called the Ninety, but after 1990 when they changed the name to Defender 90 & added a decent power plant (200Tdi) they got a lot better. I'll probably get a '94 on so I can get the 300Tdi, which is even better.
I'd go for the RRS. Driven both, like them okay although I prefer my LR3.
My next LR will be a Defender 90. Cooler than all the rest right there!
We just returned from a trip to the UK, while there we had a look at the LR dealer in Wakefield. New Defender 90's with the TD engines, £17,800 brand new or $26,700 at the recent exchange rate. Also, 2 door Evoques, which look better than the 4 door. LR2 (freelander) with the proper TDi engine, not the epoxied together V6 we got here that dies at 60K if you're lucky and is not repairable...of course we only get a limited range here and forget trying to import them.
I do plan to import a 25 YO Defender in the next couple years. Cheap as chips over in the UK.
If you had to choose between the sport or evoque, which would you choose?
This is a no brainer, the Sport edition. The Evoque is just ugly in my opinion and not a real Range Rover. The Sport is not very boxy either, it has a great looking body and interior.
That is the real problem with Landrover. They have a bad reputation for being unreliable. They are beautiful vehicles but they are delicate. There is a reason used(2-3 years old) Landrovers can be had for dirt cheap.
Help me understand the cult like following of RR. I own an Infiniti QX56 AWD with all the tech goodies available. Super reliable, drives like a luxury big car but serious off road capability from its fore father Nissan Patrol. Great interior and flawless reliability after almost 3 years. I see RR and hear the stories about reliability and wonder why would anyone go this direction when a dependable Asian made vehicle has that leather smell too !
