I have always liked Lotus. That is a very cool car, and true to the classic sports car. Nice! I want!

This car is very uncomfortable to drive anywhere but a perfectly smooth track. The good thing is that's what it is designed for. We can have them in the US - you just can't license them for the road.

The Lotus Exige, now with the V6 (never mind its provenance) is a marvelous engineering achievement! OP - was your friend able to get one in left-hand-drive version? I'm very uncomfortable driving UK-market cars, and it would be especially awkward with a right-hand-drive car on American roads... ahem, on American tracks.

Has anyone succeeded importing the Exige-350 as a kit car? Given the tapestry of American highway regulations, and the fact that so much is up to the states, one could conceivably find an accommodating state DMV, provided that the importing itself were legal and fully aboveboard.

Stay tuned. Lotus are getting ready to introduce a new generation of the Elise/Exige and some new models as well. Expect fun things and expect them to be available here and everywhere.

The thing is, the current Elise/Exige ('Elige') platform is very old -first produced in the mid-'90s- and is based on some aging engines. The Elise ceased to be sold in USA because of the three engines used in it around the world, only one was US-certified and was made by Toyota, who chose to stop making that engine. And Lotus is a very small company with a very small R&D budget, although the recent purchase of Lotus by Geely holds a lot of promise and the new models mentioned above are the result of Geely pumping some cash into Lotus.
