CR you may have thought of this already but with EMS you always have to worry about reciprocity. In my case MO to AK they'll take EMT-B, but not paramedic. AK does recognize the training, but requires you to take their murder boards to recertify before having EMT-P certification. Um, no thanks. Being from AL rather than MO, YMMV. Google AL and AK EMT reciprocity and it will get you in the neighborhood of what you need to look at. I've done some SAR training but nothing in fire science more complicated than holding the water hose, so no idea there. Keep in mind that what gets you good in the rig or the fire house in AL, may not keep you good in AK. Just sayin. Good luck, and welcome to EMS!

I'm afraid I know nothing about the EMT job market in Alaska.
But I do know Fairbanks.
Personally I adore Fairbanks. Cold aside it is, hands down the best town in Alaska.
It is just small enough and just big enough. There is plenty to do there for people who like the outdoors and people who don't really care about hunting or fishing. I'm assuming your single so there is not need to worry about family yet but the schools are decent and there are excellent resources for homeschooling if you go that route.
I have lived in 4 different towns in Alaska and been to all that are on the paved road system and I still think Fairbanks is the best one at time time.

Good Luck!
