Not sure if this is accurate or not, but it seems from what I've read that Fairbanks isn't a very windy area. If this is true, can anyone tell me which areas near Fairbanks would be considered relatively windy most, if not, all of the year?

Thanks.

Click on this for a description of wind power in Alaska (and the rest of the US if you are interested)

I think it is fairly safe to say that Fairbanks - not being on top of a mountain ridge, is not very windy as long as I am reading the above publication correctly.

Thanks. I couldn't make heads or tails of it though in regards to areas around Fairbanks that might be breezy for a good portion of the year.

Do you think it's too far to commute everyday for work in Fairbanks?

Well, it's like 100 miles, so I'm going to go with "yes"

Yeah, I would say so then.

Any areas that wouldn't be out of the realm of making a daily commute to work in Fairbanks?

Anywhere up on the ridgetops will get more wind than Fairbanks proper (Chena Ridge, Old Nenana Highway, Old Murphy Dome Road, etc), not to mention they'll be much warmer in winter. Really though, the whole commuting zone is pretty exceptionally calm. After spending several winters in Delta though, I have to ask WHY IN GOD'S NAME would you want to live in a windy place in interior Alaska?

Believe it or not, just to make the summers more bareable Pretty much the only thing I find the slightest bit unappealing about Fairbanks so far is that it can get hot in the summer.

Thanks for the info on those places. I'll be sure to try and check them out when I'm up for my interview.

Thanks again!

Yeah, those mid 70's/low 80's can be pretty "unbearable."

Yes. even temps in the 70's or 80's, when experienced inside of buildings designed for arctic conditions with 1 foot thick stud walls and no A/C become unbearable. And try driving on the hwy with temps in the 90's in a truck with no A/C when you are forced to keep your windows up because of all the smoke from the fires!
