I guess winter is here to stay, and getting colder by the minute, but a problem with such cold temperatures and not having a lot of ground cover (snow on the ground) is that this could result on frozen pipes at some homes. Anyway, lets hope for the best, and for enjoying the winter

I'm not gonna lie, that forecast scares the pringles out of me! Thinking that whole "it's a dry cold" is about as true as "it's a dry heat" was in New Mexico!!! Ah, well, it's all part of the experience, I suppose.

Doesn't that frozen car exhaust ever fall to the ground? Get driving Fairbanks, protect the pipes of the good people there.

Don't worry too much about it. You get used to it and learn how to deal with it. Not saying that it's not darn cold, it is. But you learn to dress for it, start your car in plenty of time for it to warm up before leaving, etc.

That's good to know! We're used to cold. But, my eldest son keeps asking "exactly how cold is -40 degrees?" He'll find out soon enough! :-)

Well, now I know that my thermometer (purchased in southcentral last year) doesn't work below -40. I feel ya thermometer, I wish I could just give an error message and go back to sleep too...

At first the cold was an "adventure." Over time it became something that we just had to deal with. Now that I'm older and approaching retirement, it's just a PITA!

That's quite cold for that area.

Here it's the norm. But the wind will make the chill factor quite difficult (from the NWS, Fairbanks and vicinity):

Man! I can't even imagine that kind of cold.
Minnesotant's are getting soft after last winter - people were complaining because it was only in the 40's (above zero) here today.
