Dry cabins are the cheapest way to go. Dry means no running water. This means an outhouse and You have to shower at a laundry mat and do your laundry in a laundry mat as well. Most have sinks with a slop bucket underneath and you can haul water in 5 gallon jugs for drinking and doing dishes. They are also probably easier to rent for only 4 months. Rents are crazy high in the fairbanks area IMO, except for dry cabins. I personally don't think it's that bad living in one and my wallet certainly enjoys it. They can be had for about $400-$750 a month vs apartments which seem to start at the ~$900+ range.
