I came back from a solstice motorcycle ride to Dawson and the trip back along the Taylor highway was a 38• rainy freezefest, and ran into some riders who took shelter in the Mentasta lodge due to heavy snow along the Tok cutoff. Summer is just numbers on the calendar some years.

Drove by Delta Junction, out to the Rainbow ridge on the Richardson Friday. There was fresh snow on the ground at Delta Junction, but it was melting real fast. It seems that it had snowed a couple of hours before we got there. By then the temperature was around 38 degrees. When we passed North Pole on the way out, the temperature there was 40 degrees. But there was no fresh snow on the ground by Fort Greely. From here all the way down to the Rainbow ridge along the Richardson, it was very dry with a lack of snow off the road and the river. But we could see some snow flakes coming down every now and then.

There was no ice on Gunnysack Creek, by Black Rapids, nor any of the other creeks along the way. Some didn't even had water from the snow melt. There was lots of fresh snow on the ridge starting by Gunnysack Creek, and on the Rainbow ridge. But we only saw ice on the Delta River toward the end of the Rainbow ridge. We noticed temperatures from 36 to 42 degrees on the drive.

I had been snowed on every month of the year during my time in Alaska. "Unpredictable"; an adjective quite apropos when referencing such a place.
