I live in Atlanta Georgia and I was wondering if Fairbanks would be a nice place to escape the heat while enjoying beautiful scenery.

It will be coler than Atlanta, but still can get to 80's and lower 90's. Lower humidity than Atlanta, too.

Definitely cooler and less humid than Atlanta. It might get a bit warm, but nothing like the 110F and 100% humidity like summers down in "Hot-lanta". And the scenery is truly beautiful once you get outside the city limits (all cities pretty much look the same IMO).

How high does the sun get? It seems like the sun shouldn't feel too hot way up in the northern latitudes.

The past month has been nice. Usually every other year we get a "nice" summer. Last summer was rainy and cold and awful. Some summers are really smoky from forest fires. It is 80 degrees here today...absolutely great! It's suppose to get up to 84 today and I can't wait to get out in it. The summers are way too short. It doesn't warm up until May and sometimes in May, you still have to wear a jacket. Often we have snow on the ground in May starts. Then it starts cooling down in August, when you've barely had a summer. Last year, I saw snow as late as the first week of June(driving on the Alcan) and winter started on September 28th, so there's barely any "summer." It's still getting down into the 50's at night, even on these warmer days. This May, we got a week of great weather, followed by a week of rain and so forth, yet they still say that we're dry and need more rain!

I for one don't mind "short summers" here!! It's our first summer up here, it's gorgeous and we enjoy being able to spend time outside and actually enjoy it after the muggy and hot VA summers...
BUT..
I DON'T like to fight with the mosquitoes!!! And if it's true that we haven't even seen it worst yet - well that's scarier than the -50F in the winter!!!! Seriously they're eating us up alive ) Other than that, summers are really enjoyable...
