Thumbs up Northern Speedy Glass Recommendation

I went there yesterday morning (11.20.09) and had my windshield replaced. The work is excellent; but, because of the cold (-20*F), the job took some three hours to complete -- the majority of which was to warm the metal around the windshield area, so that the sealing compounds would adhere properly.

To my surprise, the quoted price ($275) included sales tax!

Thumbs down Clearplex Coating Not Recommended

The Clearplex coating costs $250, and is very sensitive to the finer particulate matter in the Fairbanks-area air. So much so, that using the windshield wipers when the windshield is dry will introduce quite visible scratches, and reduce the optical clarity of the coating. In fact, even using them with a wet windshield will, over time, hurt the coating. Auto-Trim Design told me that the coating is good for one year, but would then need to be replaced.

At that price, I opted to forego the Clearplex coating. Of course, YMMV.
