Default Question about Eielson AFB/Fairbanks area

I'm PCSing to Eielson AFB in a few days and I have read on some blogs that you need a home phone in Alaska. How much of this is true?

Enjoy Eielson, it is so funny to drive by that base on the highway because the airfields are in full view yet there are signs posted saying no pictures and no stopping on the road.

Its not so much you NEED a home phone, as ( at least for GCI) it's actually cheaper to get the plan with the home phone service, it's really weird how they do it. but it ends up being massively cheaper to get home phone, cable and internet. so If your going with GCI, and you want cable and internet then get the phone too -_-. Welcome to the area Me and my hubby just moved up here in feb

The biggest advantage (besides cost) of a landline is for 911 knowing exactly where you are.

Yes, we have that issue. If we want high speed internet and since we use a lot (household of gamers) we cannot afford to get off our plan.
We have phone, cable and internet package. If we rid the phone and cable and just got enough internet to cover our usage it would cost more.

You only need a landline if you want to use a DSL modem, or cable if you want to use a cable DSL modem.

same thing with us! we play WoW, and it was just cheaper to add more to our plan then take away. I don't really understand their thinking, but hey, if it saves money by having more, I guess I win in a sense!
