I am a new immigrant in the US, just got my green-card. Now live in Chicago, its 9% unemployment here - 3 times the one of Fargo, and high competition for jobs, I cant find decent job for the last 6 months.

I decided to move to Fargo and attend NDSU - and have part time jobs and using financial aid until I graduate. I have some questions for people who moved to Fargo or Fargo residents.

1. Will it be easy to make friends for me in the community, being a new immigrant? How do Fargo people treat white immigrants who speak with foreign accent? Particularly Russians/Eastern Europeans?

2. Is it common for anyone my age - 34 - to go back to school in North Dakota?

3. I intend to remain in ND after graduation, how is the demand for graduates with Business Degrees? Do you see new businesses opening and companies coming to Fargo?

I appreciate everyone's attempt to help me with the information.

It should be fine, but it mostly depends on your personality and your attitudes. I encounter many people with accents from all over the world in Fargo and they seem happy and well adjusted to the community. I have a friend from Armenia who loves it here.

2. Is it common for anyone my age - 34 - to go back to school in North Dakota?

You should fit right in. There are lots of people of all ages who go to NDSU. My son goes there now, and I graduated from there awhile back.

3. I intend to remain in ND after graduation, how is the demand for graduates with Business Degrees? Do you see new businesses opening and companies coming to Fargo?

I'd recommend specializing in an area like finance or accounting, or some other area to get the best chance at post graduate employment. While there are always new businesses opening and companies expanding in Fargo, you will want to network well and have an area of expertise.

I appreciate everyone's attempt to help me with the information.

I think Fargo-Moorhead would be fairly welcoming, and you would not be the only Russian/Eastern European in the community. If it is relevant, there is an Eastern Orthodox congregation in Fargo: Holy Resurrection Orthodox Christian Church - Home Page

And recently, a Russian/Eastern Europe grocery/deli was featured in the local paper:

Thank you, gentlemen, for your time and advice!
I am in progress of finalizing my decision to move and admission to NDSU, so fall this year I am likely going to be one of Fargo residents.
