Is there any underground music scene in Fargo? (Bismarck, Mandan: house, wedding)

I've lived in Fargo a majority of my life but I'm not one that cares for Country, Hip-Hop, Rap, or Top 40 music that is played in most of the bars located in Fargo. What I am looking for is either independent events or specific nights that the bars in the area would place House, Dance, Trance, or Electro Music (basically Electronic Music).

I know Paul Oakenfold just visited Minneapolis and they have a large House/Dance scene in the cities, due to the traffic between Minneapolis/Chicago (since chicago is the origin of House and Acid House music), but is there anything local so I don't have to drive 3-4 hours one way just to enjoy the music I like with others?

I love music produced by Tiesto, Deadmau5, and DJ Pierre to give you a basic idea of my tastes. I know we had the Tropics night club (that burnt down in 2000) and there were a few short-lived clubs after that, but is there anything today that compares, even if it is a one-night event or a one night a week electronic-only night at a bar/club in the area?

If nothing local in Fargo, can anyone suggest something closer than the cities? If not, what else besides the EPIC in the cities has a house/dance night?

you're not going to find anything along the lines of that in fargo, especially names like that lol...it's hard enough to get them to Minneap! I usually end up traveling to NYC or Chicago to see names like that. Minneapolis gets em every once in a while. Otherwise, in Minneapolis, there's weekly house/electro every saturday at First Ave, and also Barfly has a weekly house night too, couldn't tell you the night for sure.

Hopefully you get this tonight, but at the Aqarium tonight, there's some electronic stuff. Just local Fargo stuff, but it's the best you can expect to be honest.

Personally I beleive that there is a pretty good following for this type of following in the Bismarck/Mandan Area. I'm a fan of tiesto and DJ pierre, I'd love to see them. I think that if you brought them to an area centralized in the state and did alot of promoting statewide and bordering states you would have one hell of a turn out!

yea, but even so...you know damn well that will never happen lol. it's hard enough to get tiesto to the states as it is.

I'm with all of you, the Fargo music scene is a joke to say the least! There is no variety around here in general and I think that is the biggest downfall of this lame city. Anyone know of some good websites that list events that pertain to electronic music?

This is not so much true. I am turntablist/DJ in the Valley City ND area. I venture to Fargo quite frequently and am always looking for gigs and or people who love electronic dance music. I play a variety of breaks, dubstep, house, trance, downtempo and many other genres as well... [Mod cut]

I know this is an old thread, but I have to agree. There is a serious lack of this style of music in the area. I've been a wedding DJ for the last 12 years in the area, and I've finally got to the point where I feel like I need to branch out from it. There is only so much hip hop, oldies and country music I can play. I'd like to get some sort of an EDM night started somewhere in town, but not really sure if there is a place that would back or even allow such a thing to start up. I also wonder if there would be enough community drive to back such a thing.

I mainly concentrate on Electro house and dubstep, but certainly almost any type of house music is cool to spin. Perhaps someone needs to host a rave and I'll come spin at it. ;-)
