Hello My name is Amal
I currently live in New York wit my husband and 2 yr old. Will be moving to Fargo Next may . I wondering if anyone help with the search of a good neighborhood with less violence and a more single family kind of atmosphere where we can raise a daughter well.I have never been to North dakota but we r taking a leap of faith and hoping everything works well. Plus my husband would be looking a transportation job like a medical transporter or other related jobs. Thank u

Amal,

Welcome to Fargo, you asked about safe neighborhoods. That made me smile. I posted elsewhere on the web a run down of the news here in Fargo. Here is a copy of the post.

In reality, your income, your life style and pets will make the difference. I will say that there are adequate rental units in Fargo, but they rent fairly quickly. For a young family, if you have a good car, look in a West Fargo or if your income is moderate, south Moorhead. Not because of safety, but because other people in your situation are around those areas and things young families need tend to be there.

I live downtown. I walk downtown at night with no worries. However, I am getting old so I am generally in the house by 10:30 or 11. On the other hand, my adult son that shares our apartment gets home after the bars close. He has not reported anything scary.

Probably the Fargo definition of violent would be if someone bumped into you and they only apolitized once.

Cheers

The Front Page 3/4 color - Katy Perry Roars into the Fargodome. My son got a free ticket,(102 dollar value) and went, he being an old geezer, at 24 didn't know Katy Perry, but thought she was a good singer and he enjoyed the concert and thought it was a great way to kick off the new school year at NDSU.

The big police action: 4 arrested for fight in parking lot, and, AND! they had to use a Taser on one of them. There will be an internal review for use of force.

One 19 year old girl and 3 minors were arrested for car prowling, a neighbor noticed them walking down the street at 4 AM with a flashlight. They were stealing from cars. They confessed and reported to the police that they tried to steal from 14 cars, but only were able to get into 7 or 8 because the rest were locked.

The five pages of Jobs HQ list jobs at Crystal Sugar, wages start at 13.85 an hour, 12 hour shifts must have a HS diploma or GED, the preferred candidates will be the ones that have worked in an industrial setting, actually show up for work, and can communicate.

NDSU police officer -40 K a year, plus reduced tuition for family.

New rates at Crystal Sugar, 30 an hour to start for electricians, 27 an hour, starting for electronic techs, and boiler house fireman starts at 24 an hour.

Note: 3/2 with a 3 car heated garage, new in the 'burbs will run you about 200,000. Rent downtown in the really nice new apartments with underground parking and indoor pools and such, 1500 a month for a 3 bedroom.

For the low income, (Sub 75K a year) everything is cheaper across the river in Moorhead due to higher state income taxes.

Cheers
Qazulight (I worry sometimes when I am walking along the river, I really shouldn't feel this kind of infatuation with a city.)
