Many of the Tattoo Artists today use "single use" tattoo dye containers along with one time use needles so everything is disposable (not autoclaved) from one customer and not able to be used on the next. For those who are worried about this issue, you can always ask your Artist if this is what they do.

New York City designer Jane Ko, 30, who is Chinese-American, has been approached countless times by sheepish and somewhat befuddled strangers and acquaintances who have asked her to translate tattoos that they once thought were Chinese characters for attractive concepts like “power” and “love” but now suspect might actually say “General Tso’s Chicken special” or “gullible white boy."
“I’ve seen some pretty funny Chinese characters that they offer on tattoo-parlor walls,” she said.
Other ridiculous tattoo translations Ko has seen include "blood and guts," mutated into "blood and intestines" in Chinese, and "rock 'n' roll" corrupted as "to sway and to roll."
"That would be translating it literally, but nobody would actually use those characters to say 'rock 'n' roll' in Chinese," she said. "In Chinese people would ask, 'Why would you 'get the rolls?'"

nah. I think those kanji tattoos are hilarious, I once read somewhere that "beautiful" (as a tattoo for the girls) often somehow gets mistranslated into "****" lol.

Not really. I don't like Asian character tattoos.

Why, for posting an honest link to an article that has important information for people considering that "Asian symbol" tattoo? It's not like they're being insulting or judgemental. :P
I have relatives that speak and read Mandarin and I still wouldn't risk it as the language is very tricky.

You missed the humor, mate. This is an "Appreciation" thread and those here WITH tattoos can get VERY defensive.
