So I turn 35 tomorrow and was very depressed about getting old. For some reason 35 is really hard for me. I keep thinking of the OB and that they consider you advanced maternal age at 35. I'm done having kids by the way I just think 35 is old.
Today I went out to the casino with my husband and he got to go in. I was stopped at the door by 2 male security guards. They took me to the side and said they had to see ID in order to let me in. I live in Canada and you have to be 21 to gamble in the city I am in. Is it possible they thought I looked younger than 21 I felt really good after that.
Oh and when I was 32 I went to but a case of beer for a birthday party. The guy behind the counter asked for ID. You have to be 19 to drink where I live. I showed him my driver's license and he said. Wow you are young looking!
I have long hair and bangs. I do have some white hair but I always colour it. I have always stayed out of the sun, never used tanning beds, wear sunscreen, use a retin a cream. I've never smoked, don't drink and have never partied or stayed out late at night.

Has anything like this happened to you?

The day after my 37th b-day a store clerk looked at me wondering if she should card me or not. She guessed my age to be 28.

35 was my hardest so far too. A few months ago I had to check a box for my age range. The choices were 18-24, 25-35, and 36-55. I'm lumped in with 55 yo's? really?

When you're 51 like me, 55 doesn't seem that old. On the other hand, 35 sure does seem young.

One thing to look forward to is at 35 you're not that far from 55 as you may think.

Haha don't knock 55 until you have tried it. I wouldn't trade the 50's for any other age now that I have reached it.

Why is that? Just curious.

The 50's for me at least have become "the relaxing" years. Things that bothered me in my 30's and 40's for some reason don't feel so pressing or important anymore as they did back then.

I had my kids when I was 24 and 27. They are now 30 and 28 and I now know I did a good job with them and today we are really close. They are such a part of our lives but have their own lives and journey's to follow. I am Mom but I don't have to be "The Mom"

My husband and I had been friends since we were 16 years old and got married when we were just about 22.

The best advice my Mom ever gave to me during the kid stage which was hard because we had a sick child at the time was "it was the two of you before it was the four of you and someday when the kids are gone it will be the two of you again so always make time for each other" and I have to say we enjoy each other's company, are still best friends and just have a great time in life. We keep it simple.

For us being in our 50's is so laid back.

I look at my daughter at 30 with two kids and see how hard it is when the kids are little and I do remember what it was like .... Life is a journey and it is easier to enjoy it. It is as easy/hard as you make it. If you feel you are on a roller coaster, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride and don't forget the little things that took you on that ride.
Capture as many memories you can on the way.
The 50's are not the end of the world...yes the clock is ticking but it is a great time.

BTW Happy Birthday.

I was mistaken for 20 when I was 16, that wasn't so bad but I wasn't happy. I was also mistaken for 25 and up when I was 18! That pissed me off. What are people gonna say when I'm 20, 30? I'd hit someone lol. I've had plenty of moments when people thought I was younger too, alot more, that can be insulting too depending on the situation.

My sister is six years younger than I am, she's in her twenties, and I'm in my thirties. There have been numerous occasions where people think she is the older sister, and where I've been asked for ID and she has not. I chalk it up to the fact that she dresses fairly sophisticatedly and wears a more "adult" hairstyle. I, on the other hand, wear jeans, hoodies, and keep my long hair in a ponytail much of the time. But it's also true that I have skin that's seen far less sun than she has.
