and how does the $5.00 compensate for damage to furniture? If this were the case they would factor that into their entire store budget and adjust their prices (for every patron) accordingly. This woman was discrimated against! In fact, it sounded to me like she has picked up on some of the bad habits of some of her Western business counterparts! Good way to bring unecessary publicity to your business! Not patronizing won't solve the problem, maybe bringing attention to unhealthy business practices will though!

I am the one who contributed the quote in bold.

It is a verbatim quote from one of my coworkers, so it didn't come from my own stereotypes of Asians. It came straight from a Chinese coworker's mouth.

The point wasn't the quote in and of itself. I was merely pointing out that quotes like that are being thrown around (there are plenty more I could use). It was just that yours was on the same page as my reply box, so it was quicker to copy and paste. Even so, it still fit the second point of my statement that I wouldn't be surprised at the number of people who read stuff like that with some semblance of "internal asian accent".

I merely wanted to point out that many people here stereotype asian nail salons and asians in general, while also shunning their stereotyping. I mean, if it's okay for people to stereotype them, why can't they stereotype us?

As far as nail salons go, I know a few places that are bad, but I also know of several that are amazing places with wonderful people. Heck, last time I went to a nail salon, I walked out of there learning several Vietnamese phrases and got a huge discount merely because I asked how to properly say "Thank You."

Perhaps they do; I can't control how people perceive what I post.

They already do; they don't need our permission!

I don't get manicures or pedicures regularly but personally I don't tend to patronize those kinds of salons when I do. I've never been treated courteously at one. YMMV.
